Studies of Iraq-Iran Railway LineCompleted




(MENAFN - QNA) Iraqi Republic Railways (IRR) has confirmed that it completed studies pertaining to the link of Iraqi Al-Shalamjah railway line with Kermanshah railway line in Iran as part of a comprehensive railway link project between the two countries.

The company's spokesman Abdussattar Al-Gharawi said the ministry of transport in Iraq is working with its Iranian counterpart to complete the link between the two countries, adding that the company will prepare designs for linking the two lines.

He explained that "this line will be used to transport passengers and goods between Iraq and Iran to avoid congestion in land routes.

The Iraqi Ministry of Transport, signed at the end of 2014, a memorandum of understanding to develop cooperation in the field of rail transport between Iraq and Iran, including the railway lines between Shalamjah and Basra, and the building of a 700-metre drawbridge to link the railway lines between the two countries.
