OIC Welcomes European Parliament Resolution on Recognition of Palestine

(MENAFN- QNA) The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, has welcomed the adoption of a resolution by the European Parliament that supports recognition of a Palestinian and the two-state solution.

In a statement issued by OIC, Madani said this would support the rights of the Palestinian people and contribute to enhancing international efforts aiming at putting an end to the Israeli occupation and establishing the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also commended the adoption of a resolution by Luxembourg parliament calling for the government to recognize a Palestinian state, stressing that these historic positions go hand in hand with the resolutions of international legitimacy, according to a statement issued by OIC today.

Madani expressed his hope that these significant resolutions would be catalysts for the governments to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and recognize the Palestine statehood, while reaffirming the OIC support for the Palestinian decision to seek a U.N. Security Council resolution to set a timeline to put an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian land.
