EP postpones vote on Palestine statehood

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The European Parliament Monday night announced that the vote on the recognition of Palestine as a state was postponed to the December session, but the issue will be debated in the house on Wednesday.

The EP was to vote on the Palestinian statehood on Thursday but the European People's Party, EPP, the biggest party in the EP, called for a postponement of the vote.

Meanwhile, EP President Martin Schulz in his remarks at the opening session of the EP this evening condemned the attacks that killed five people and injured many more in a Jerusalem synagogue last week.

He called on all parties to halt this "senseless killing" and join in dialogue instead.

He noted that Pope Francis, who recently issued a strong appeal for peace and dialogue in the Middle East, would be in Parliament on Tuesday.
