Japan, Uzbekistan to Start Joint Development of Uranium

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) will start mining uranium in Uzbekistan, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Friday. According to Russian news agency Itar-Tass, the relevant document will be signed between JOGMEC and Uzbekistan's State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources during a tour of Japan's economic delegation to the Central Asian countries on Monday, July 8. Japan does not have uranium resources and has to import the mineral. Now, Canada and Australia are major uranium producers. However, Japan is extremely interested in closer cooperation with the Central Asian countries, which have considerable uranium reserves.
