Jordan urges Iraq to release oil tanks

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Jordanian government said it has asked the Iraqi side to allow some 300 oil tank to cross into Jordan. The Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a release Sunday the 300 oil tank should be excluded from the Iraqi decision to seal off the border between both countries. It said it has already made a request to the Iraqi government in this respect, according to the statement. Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Alaa Al-Batayneh contacted his Iraqi counterpart Abdul-Karim Luaibi to urge him to allow oil tanks to move into Jordan at an early date, it added. The Iraqi minister responded by promising to discuss the issue with his country's government, it noted. The Iraqi government had decided to close the border with Jordan unilaterally. The decision included Iraqi oil exports to Jordan, which are estimated at around 10,000 barrels of oil per day.
