(MENAFN) The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents more than 12,000 United Continental Holdings' pilots, said that the pilots have voted in favor of a new agreement with the world's biggest carrier, reported Reuters.
The union said that nearly 98 percent of the eligible 10,193 pilots took part in the voting, with the deal approved by 67 percent of the voting pilots.
The parties reached the contract after negotiations took more than 2 years for a joint collective bargaining deal with United Continental, which was created when UAL Corp, the parent of United merged with Continental Airlines in 2010.
According to ALPA, the new agreement gives pilots several benefits, including a lump-sum payment that averages nearly USD40,000 per pilot, and 16 percent company contribution to pilots' defined contribution plan.
