US Monsanto's Q4 loss widens


(MENAFN) US multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation Monsanto Co reported a quarterly loss on a seasonally sluggish sales period, Reuters reported. The world's largest seed company said it incurred USD229 million loss during its fiscal fourth quarter ended August 31, compared with USD112 million loss a year earlier. Total sales in the quarter dropped to USD2.11 billion from USD2.25 billion a year ago, as corn seeds and trait sales fell year to year. Monsanto, which is a developer of genetically engineered corn, soybeans, and other crops, projected 2013 ongoing and as-reported earnings per share of USD4.18 to USD4.32.
