Regulatory Requirement - Basel III, CRD IV, RWAs and the Capital, Leverage and Liquidity Ratios

Light-touch regulation has been decisively abandoned for comprehensive and at times hugely complex and over-lapping regulation. Knowledge of both how the various regulations work in practice and how they affect the business has been essential since Basel was first implemented over twenty years ago but its increased coverage and complexity, and the frequency of the changes, now makes acquiring this knowledge significantly more challenging. Furthermore, it is still evolving, and a possible change in supervisors’ attitude to the more complex internal models approach may mean that larger banks, which might have previously benefitted from graduating to this level, may now reconsider staying with the simpler standardised approach, possibly even with supervisor approval.
This course covers the key areas of Basel III and CRD IV, focusing in particular on how RWAs and the other key ratios are calculated.
