Fire Breaks Out at Egypt's Damietta LNG Port, No Injuries Reported
(MENAFN) A blaze erupted aboard a regasification vessel and a storage vessel at Egypt's Damietta Port on the Mediterranean coast on Wednesday, though officials say no one was hurt.
The Petroleum Ministry confirmed the fire in a statement, noting that firefighting and security personnel moved swiftly to contain the flames aboard both vessels.
According to the ministry, the blaze resulted in zero injuries or deaths. Technical teams remain on site conducting damage assessments while officials work to determine what triggered the incident.
While the ministry stopped short of identifying a cause, it called on news outlets and social media users to rely solely on official channels for updates on the situation.
The government's statement followed reporting from maritime risk consultancy Ambrey, which said a floating LNG storage unit — owned and operated by a US company and flagged in the Marshall Islands — had been hit at the port.
Separately, ICC Shipping issued an advisory indicating an explosion struck the port's LNG terminal while cargo was being unloaded. The firm reported that local authorities had since contained the situation, moved the affected vessels away from the port, and anticipated that activity at the port's remaining berths and terminals would resume by nightfall.
