(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Public Transport Company (KPTC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Qatar-based Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) for global sustainability assessment.

The agreement was signed on Sunday on the sidelines of the "Sustainability Summit 2017", in which KPTC's CEO for transport services Abdullah Nasser and GORD's Chairman Dr. Yousef Al-Horr put their names on the dotted line.

As per the agreement, KPTC will now join GORD's "Global Sustainability Assessment System", known as GSAS, Nasser told KUNA.

He pointed out that KPTC's workforce would be attending a number training courses, seminars and workshops provided by GORD, in addition to GSAS-certified joint infrastructure projects between both sides.

Meanwhile, Nasser added that KPTC is in the process of revamping passenger transit stations across the country, where special environment-friendly stations running on alternative energy sources will be constructed.

He also revealed that the first such station will be up and running in February, in time for Kuwait's national celebrations. (end) nnd.nam
