Chennai is set to get rains again for at least three days as the northeast monsoon turns active once more.

The met department has predicted 2-6cm of rain today.

According to weather blogger Pradeep John, one spell of the northeast monsoon brings rainfall for three-four days, "but the first spell had brought rainfall for nine".

Rainfall will be concentrated in the coastal districts.

More rainfall likely in coastal areas and interior districts
Predictions

Many parts of coastal TN in the north and south are likely to receive rainfall. Interior districts will receive intermittent showers.

John says Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram will receive heavy (7-11cm) to very heavy (12-20cm) rainfall.

In two days, a fresh low pressure area will form over southeast Bay of Bengal.

Today's maximum and minimum temperatures were predicted as 29C and 24C.

Crisis

The first spell of monsoon sent Chennai reeling. At least 12 died. Chennai recorded 183mm rainfall on November 2, the third-highest rainfall in its history in a single day for the month.

Schools in Chennai and other coastal towns remain closed for days.

TN has received 25cm of rainfall since October compared to its normal of 26cm.

However, CM Palaniswami insisted "people are unaffected".
