Qatar ExxonMobil Open wins ATP Tour award

LONDON: The 2017 edition of the hugely popular Qatar ExxonMobil has been voted as the 'Best Tournament' on the ATP Tour in the 250 points class, it has emerged.

According to a post on the www.atptourworld.com, the season-opening event - which is staged annually in Doha - was the best in the 2017 season that will end in London this coming week.

The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells (Masters 1000) and the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco (500) joined the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha (250) as the Tournaments of the Year announced by The ATP.

The same award - the Best Tournament in the 250 points class - was won by the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in 2016 also. The Qatar ExxonMobil Open is held in the first week of every January at the Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex.

The winners of the 2017 ATP World Tour Awards - presented by Moët & Chandon - were revealed on Thursday night as the year's best eight singles players and doubles teams gathered at the Tower of London for the 2017 Nitto ATP Finals Official Launch.

In other awards announced on Thursday, Rafael Nadal was recognised for his achievement of clinching the year-end No. 1 ranking for the fourth time in his career. Nadal will be presented the No. 1 trophy on court at the conclusion of the opening session.

The ATP World Tour Awards presented by Moët & Chandon honours the season's best players and tournaments, as determined by the players and ATP Rankings.

In addition to the player-voted awards, fans choose the winner of ATPWorldTour.com Fans' Favourite singles player and doubles team, while the ATP selects the recipients of the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian and Ron Bookman Media Excellence awards.
