Faurecia, Ford Win 2017 SPE Automotive Innovations Award

(MENAFNEditorial) LIVONIA, Mich., Nov.9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --Faurecia, in partnership with Ford, received a2017 SPE Automotive Innovations Award in the Process and Technology category for decorative components in the instrument panel of the 2017 Ford Fiesta ST & Vignale.

The decorative components are made up of a transparent polycarbonate top layer with a colored ABS back layer, finished with a scratch-resistant top coat. The components are molded through a 2k reverse injection molding process. This injection molding process allows for the styling feature of floating grain but with a smooth surface. Ford and Faurecia worked alongside each other to perfect the design and to produce it.

"We are proud to have been recognized by the Society of Plastics Engineers for our team's innovative thinking and leadership in the automotive plastics space," said Donald Hampton, president of Faurecia Interior Systems North America. "This recognition, however, wouldn't have been possible without our relationship with Ford and the opportunity to collaborate alongside their team to continually bring solutions to the market."

The molding process for the decorative components takes place in Faurecia's plant in Poland. The SPE Automotive Innovation Awards program is the oldest, largest competition of its kind in the automotive and plastics industries. Several teams from OEMs, tier-1 suppliers and polymer producers submit nominations describing their part, system or complete vehicle module for consideration as the year's most innovative use of plastics.

Faurecia last won the SPE Innovation Award in 2014 for the Active Glove Box, which was a collaboration with Ford for the Ford Mustang.
