Oman- Muscat Municipality experiments smart central lighting system

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Muscat Municipality is experimenting the operation of an intelligent central system for the lighting in the governorate, with the aim of reducing maintenance costs.

A total of 40 electrical grids have been installed and operated to monitor and retrieve information, stated a press release.

Ziyad al Zadjali, director of Lighting Department at Muscat Municipality, said, 'This step will introduce a modern concept for managing street lights through a simulation system that tracks all lighting complexes in Muscat governorate.

'This system monitors performance and sends information on operations and energy consumption.

'In the event of any malfunction, the coordinates of the system are determined and the staff can go directly to the exact site, which in return will shorten the time required for maintenance and, of course, simplifies operational processes.'

He added, 'This step will also enable the central monitoring of street lighting system to be quite smart, as this system has many advantages.

'It will allow scheduling of the lighting time, which helps to allow the control staff to change the schedule. The programme can be used to adjust the schedules according to the different seasons and change time of sunrise and sunset. There is also the possibility of extracting reports of the status of the lighting network and determine the duration required to help evaluate this network.

'It will help to eliminate any processes to rationalise energy consumption and contribute to make streets safe.'
