Two runaway migrant workers from Vietnam – traveling in a vehicle late at night in Pingtung, Taiwan – were caught at a roadside inspection by officers who became suspicious because the pair failed to provide much personal information.
A unit of six police from Fangliao precinct in Pingtung County set up a checkpoint on a section of Jhongjheng Avenue in an effort to combat drink-driving, The Real Daily reported.

Two foreign men were stopped by the police but had very limited Mandarin when they communicated with the officers. Both were later identified as migrant workers from Vietnam surnamed Vo and Nguyen.
The pair failed to produce identity documents because their passports and residency permits were kept by the employer, whose identity they were unable to recall, the police heard.
The pair were taken back to the police station, where it was learnt that they had been reported missing by their former legal employer. Vo had been overstaying for 813 days, while Nguyen had overstayed 414 days.
They were referred to the National Immigration Agency's Pingtung Specialized Brigade for violating the Immigration Act.
