ACC U19 Western Region qualifiers: Oman U19 boys lose to Kuwait in semis


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Kuwait dashed Oman boys' dream of a berth in the fourth U19 Junior Asia Cup with a 17-run victory in the semifinals of the ACC U19 Western Region Qualifiers 2017 tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday.

In a rain-curtailed match, Kuwait was bowled out for 150 in 49.2 overs with Oman skipper Wasim Ali claiming four for 22 to be his side's most successful bowler. Sanin Nisar Fahad claimed three for 17.

In reply, Oman was 84 for four when rains arrived to halt the match. Oman was given a revised target of 142 in 46 overs but was bowled out for 124 in 42.5 overs. Vivek Shreeraman Iyer was the top-scorer with 38.

Kuwait set up a title clash with the UAE. The winner goes to the Junior Asia Cup that will be played in Malaysia from November 11-19. UAE beat Qatar by seven wickets in the other semifinal. The teams that have qualified for Asia Cup are India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan.

Earlier, Oman had finished second in Pool A that featured three teams with UAE topping the group. Oman had defeated Bahrain by five wickets in its opening match but lost to UAE by a huge 101-run margin. The seven-nation event had Iran, Kuwait, Maldives and Qatar pooled in Group B.
