US allows resumption of limited visa services in Turkey

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- The US announced Monday that it believes the security posture in Turkey has improved enough to allow the resumption of limited visa services in the country.

Turkey has told the US that there are no additional local employees of the US mission under investigation and that no more of the US mission's local staff will be detained.

"Authorities will inform the US government in advance if the Government of Turkey intends to detain or arrest a member of our local staff in the future," said a release from State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert.

"Serious concern" was expressed by Nauert with regard to the existing cases against local employees in Turkey and for the cases against US citizens who have been arrested under the state of emergency.

"US officials will continue to engage with their Turkish counterparts to seek a satisfactory resolution of these cases," she said. (end) ak.bs
