(MENAFN)Based on a study, magic mushrooms may have the ability to treat depression by restarting the activity of key brain circuits in patients suffering from the sickness.
After a straight treatment had failed to treat a small number of patients with depression, Researchers from Imperial College London in the UK used psilocybin " the psychoactive compound that arises naturally in magic mushrooms to treat them.
Weeks after this treatment, they found that patients taking psilocybin showed reduced symptoms.
The study that was published in the journal Scientific Reports, indicated that patient-reported benefits long-lasting to five weeks after treatment.
