Jordan- Army chief: Eliminating terrorism requires mutual global efforts


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Manama, Oct. 18 (Petra) -- Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat, has emphasized that eliminating terrorism requires a joint international effort and deny terror groups a safe haven, with the need to understand the relation between criminal and terrorism activities.

In the closing session of Middle East Military Alliances and Coalitions conference, which was convened in Manama, Bahrain over three days, the army chief said that fast-evolving challenges in the region impose political, military, and socio-economic threats, prompting the need for mutual regional and global efforts to address them.

Moreover, he reviewed the comprehensive national strategy which Jordan adopted and participated in its implementation all state agencies which work to immunize and safeguard the society from dark ideologies through improved security preventive action, as well as projecting the real image of Islam and establishing a principle of rapprochement among members of society.

Freihat noted Jordan's active participation in the anti-Daesh U.S.-led coalition and the successive defeats the Kingdom's armed forces inflicted on the terror group.

"The expulsion of Daesh terrorists from zones under their control does not necessarily mean that they were eliminated", said the army chief, adding that "such terror organizations have acquired the ability to appear in different forms and under various names." Furthermore, he stressed the need for an appropriate and efficient mechanisms to face the growing cyber war, especially with the world's increasing e-space link, which could be exploited by terrorists to achieve their goals and disseminate radical ideologies.
