SHABWA, 2nd October, 2017 (WAM) -- The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, is continuing its humanitarian and relief efforts in Shabwa Governorate, Yemen, by providing new supplies of food aid to families in remote districts, regions and villages, as part of the UAE's support for the Yemeni people.

The ERC yesterday distributed 1,200 relief packages containing basic food supplies to local people in Al Talh District in eastern Shabwa, who are suffering from tough economic conditions.

Mohammed Saif Al Muhairi, Head of the ERC Team in Shabwa, said on the occasion that distributing food baskets to people in Al Talh District is part of the ERC's ongoing humanitarian assistance programme in Yemen and a series of humanitarian campaigns in Shabwa that prioritise remote areas.

He added that the ERC has responded to calls for humanitarian aid from the people of the eastern districts of Shabwa and from other districts, to ease their suffering, adding that his team has visited various districts in the governorate to learn about the needs of local people and improve their living conditions.

Saleh Basmir, Representative of the Al Talh Local Council of Shabwa Governorate, commended the ERC's efforts and its role in supporting vulnerable local families, as well as its relief and humanitarian assistance to Yemenis in other governorates. He also expressed his appreciation for the UAE's honest and supportive stance towards the people of Yemen, which reflects the close and historic ties between the two countries.

The people of Al Talh District expressed their appreciation to the UAE's government and people for providing them with the humanitarian aid.
