(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) 'An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind' said Mahatma Gandhi tens of years ago dreaming of a world of peace. Celebrating the birthday of the leader of the Indian independence movement and the distinguished philosopher, The Indian Embassy in Egypt organizes a set of events commemorating his life.
On his 148 birthday anniversary, which matches the same month in which UN International Day of Non-Violence exists, the embassy organizes a lecture of Gandhi's Peace principles and Non-violence titled with 'Non-Violence: A Temptation and Challenge'.
The lecture, taking place on October 2 in he Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture, is hosted by eminent Gandhi Scholar Ms. Rajni Bakshi.
The embassy also organizes an Exhibition themed 'Spirit of Gandhi' by the Egyptian Caricature Society. Nationals from 24 countries including Egypt and India have contributed to the caricature collection.
A booklet of 'Spirit of Ghandi' will also be launched to raise people's awareness with the achievements Gandi accomplished throughout his life.
Moreover, aiming to invoke Gandhi's principle of labour's dignity, and promoting the spirit of service, the Embassy of India in Cairo, organized an online Let's Clean Zamalek campaign with the hashtag of #CleanZamalek.
The idea of the campaign is adopted by a greater national cause organized at India called 'Swachta Hi Sewa' Campaign. It aims to carry forward and realize the dream of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of India. The Government of India had launched the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' on 2 October 2014 with a vision to dedicate Clean India on the150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October 2019.
