Croatia punishing former commander for war crimes
(MENAFN) Dragan Vasilijkovic, 62, a former Serbian paramilitary commander was sentenced to 15 years in jail for war crimes on Tuesday.
Also known as "captain Dragan", he was convicted of torturing prisoners as well as participating in a deadly attack on a village during the Croatian war of independence the beginnings of 1990's.
Before his transportation to Croatia in 2015, Dragan had been living in Australia with an Australian citizenship, and fought for almost a decade to prevent his extradition from Australia, saying he would not receive a fair trial back in Croatia.
