Qatar win team jumping silver in Ashgabat

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar won a second silver to the medals haul at the Asian Indoor Athletics and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, when the equestrian Jumping quartet narrowly missed out on gold by one time point yesterday.
At the Equestrian Centre yesterday, Qatar team, comprising Hamad al-Attiyah, Faleh al-Ajami, Salmen al-Suwaidi and Salman al-Emadi, missed out on the top spot after incurring a time fault in the opening round.
In the second round, three out of four Qatar riders went through clean. Saudi Arabia's Saad al-Ajami too incurred 16 penalties after hitting four fences. But with the rest of the three riders going through without a penalty, they finished with gold, and Qatar's first round time penalty resulting in a silver.
Syrian Arab Republic, with four faults, took bronze.
'Thank God for the silver medal, we are happy. The team could have done better, but that's sport. One day you have it, one day you don't, said al-Attiyah said after winning silver.
'At least we ended up on the podium so I am very happy about that. In our sport, you always have a chance until the last jump.
'It couldn't have been closer. But we have a new team here and it's the first time we jumped as a team. The boys gave their best and did really good for a first time. Hopefully we will do better next time.
