Jordan- Islamic new year holiday on Thursday


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept. 19 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Hani Mulqi Tuesday decided that all ministries, institutions and public entities will be closed on Thursday to mark the Islamic New Year.

The premier asked all ministries to contribute to highlighting the religious occasion.

The Islamic New Year, or Hijri New Year, is the day that marks the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year, and is the day on which the year count is incremented. The first day of the year is observed on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
