Trump phones May, conveys sympathies over injured in London subway attack

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump spoke with Prime Minister Theresa May of the United Kingdom "to convey his sympathies and prayers" for those injured in the terrorist attack in London, the White House announced Friday.

"The President pledged to continue close collaboration with the United Kingdom to stop attacks worldwide targeting innocent civilians and to combat extremism," the statement said.

During a brief appearance earlier in the White House Rose Garden, Trump was asked for any reaction to the London attack.

"It's a terrible thing," he said. "It keeps going and going, and we have to be very smart, and we have to be very, very tough. Perhaps we're not nearly tough enough." Trump acknowledged that he had been briefed on the attack.

Officials said a crude device exploded on a crowded London Underground train, injuring commuters and disrupting service.

The device exploded on an eastbound District Line train leaving the Parsons Green station in Southwest London, officials said. (end) rm.mb
