(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit has called on Japanese government to recognize the State of Palestine.
Speaking at the opening session of the first round of the Arab-Japanese ministerial political dialogue, which kicked off at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo Monday evening, Abul Gheit argued that the failure to find a just settlement to the Palestinian cause has been a factor of tension and instability in the whole Middle East.
He also lauded Japanese government's generous support to the UN Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA).
The Arab League considers Japan's stances a factor for balance on the international affairs, he argued, adding that the Arab World and Japan are looking forwards to stable, balanced world order that reflects the values of justice, peace and security for all.
He pointed out that the Arab-Japanese political dialogue is meant to identify joint challenges and coordinate stances to address them.
Meanwhile, Algerian Minister of Maghreb, African Affairs and the Arab League Abdulqader Messahel emphasized the importance of political dialogue and consultations between Arab countries and Japan.
He suggested that the delicate situation in some Arab countries necessitates political consultations with Japan.
The crises in the Arab region, particularly in Syria and Yemen, require creative and effective political solutions, he said.
Messahel, who chaired the Arab side, expressed hopes the meeting, also attended by Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Taro Kono and several Arab counterparts, would help strengthen political and economic partnership between Japan and Arab World.
For his part, Minister Kono said that his country exerts strenuous efforts to help the Middle East region overcome challenges.
He added that the restoring stability in the Middle East region would be a top priority for his team in the coming stage.
He pointed out that Japan's 2030 vision envisages a wider cooperation with Arab countries in various domains.
He unveiled a "Peaceful Path" initiative to help Palestinian economy be more independent and another initiative to enhance Arab-Japanese tourism.
Kono also announced a USD 25 million donation for Syrian refugees.
Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah heads Kuwait's delegation to the meeting. (end) mfm.ms.ibi
