Amid growing concerns among citizens and expatriates over the fate of Rohingya minority in Myanmar, a relief team from Qatar reached Bangladesh to provide urgent humanitarian support.
People in Qatar are registering their protests from different platforms against Myanmar government demanding from International Community to come forward to put an end to military operation against fleeing citizens immediately.
A relief team from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) reached Dhaka on September 5, to provide urgent humanitarian aid to Rohingya refugees fighting for survival, said a report posted on the website of QRSC. The team met with Qatari Ambassador to Bangladesh to get update about the political situation of the issue, said the report. The team also met with the representatives of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to discuss the latest development about the situation of Rohingya refugees.
Highlighting the urgent needs for rescuing the refugees, the report said that additional spaces are required to accommodate growing number of refugees. Emergency shelters and basic food items are also needed. Supplementary foods and health care services should be provided for fighting the malnutrition. Funds are required to keep running the community kitchens that are serving hot foods to refugees. Refugees especially children need vaccinations against infectious diseases and health care facilities should be upgraded, said the report.
More than 4,000 litres of drinking water is being provided in the pocket of QRCS operation said the report. Temporary toilets were also set up for refugees. Two mobile clinics are providing emergency health services to newly arrived refugees. Waterproof plastic covers were distributed to 1,328 newly arrived families in Kutupalong Refugee Camp in Ukhia, Bangladesh, inhabited mostly by Rohingya Muslims that have fled from religious persecution in neighbouring Myanmar.
People in Qatar expressed their anger in different platforms. Many Qatari citizens wrote column in local Arabic newspapers underlining the plights of displaced Rohingya minority inside their country and those sheltering in neighbouring states. The columnists called the intentional community and humanitarian organizations to come forward to rescue the persecuted Rohingya Muslims.
The ill-fated people of Rohingya minority are suffering from severe humanitarian crises and international community is watching hand folded, said a Qatari citizen in his column published in a local Arabic daily. They are not taking adequate action to protect the innocent people children, women and old citizens, he added.
Another columnist urged the Organization of Islamic Conference and other international organisations to take bold step against Myanmar government to curb the killing of innocent people of Rohingya Muslims. Statements of condemnation have been issued from some Islamic originations from here and there but it is not enough to tackle such serious problem.
