On August 31, Lahlimi conducted a working session with De Souza, who was accompanied by a high-level delegation, to discuss the impact of Morocco's potential membership in the West African community. According to De Souza, the HCP's study would constitute a relevant source of information for the reflections led by the ECOWAS Commission, the HCP said in a statement.

"De Souza, while appreciating the quality of the work of the HCP, which should be a source of information for the reflections conducted by the Commission of the ECOWAS, solicited the contribution of the HCP for the success of the impact study of the accession of Morocco to this community. [This study] should be completed before the next ordinary session of the member states, scheduled in Lomé on December 16, 2017," read the statement.

The two parties also discussed various issues of common interest, including training for managers, employment and price statistics, and the process of adopting the single currency within ECOWAS. They also agreed to continue their joint reflection on the African development model.

During the meeting, De Souza presented the missions of the various ECOWAS bodies, noting that his visit is part of the preparatory work for the impact assessment of the accession of Morocco to the ECOWAS.
