Iraq urges Turkey to withdraw forces from Mosul


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- Iraq's Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi has urged Turkey to swiftly withdraw its military forces from his country's northern territories.

Al-Abadi made his remarks Wednesday while meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Baghdad.

He stressed the importance of boosting regional cooperation in countering terrorism and eradicating its ideologies that pose a great danger on the region and the world.

For his part, Cavusoglu conveyed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's congratulations to Iraqi government on recent victories over the so-called Islamic State (IS).

He also affirmed Ankara's support of Baghdad's efforts in the war against terror and full liberation of the country's territories.

The Turkish minister also expressed his country's willingness to assist Iraq in the reconstruction and stability efforts.

He also reiterated Turkey's supportive stand toward Iraq's unity and prosperity. (end) ahh.ma
