Trump calls for unity as violence erupts in Charlottesville, Virginia

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Aug 12 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump condemned Saturday the acts of violence in Charlottesville, Virginia where a state of emergency has been declared after violent clashes erupted between protesters.

Trump said in a tweet "we all must be united and condemn all that hate stands for." He added "there is no place for this kind of violence in America. Let's come together as one." According to reports, counter protests were hit by a vehicle but it was not clear whether it was intentional or an accident.

After violent clashes between white nationalists and counter protesters, the police ordered people out of a park, ending the "Unite the Right" rally before it even started.

Hundreds of "white nationalists" gathered to protest the removal of a Confederate statue. (end) si -- --
