
Magnitude 4.9 quake hits Tokyo area
TOKYO, 10th August, 2017 (WAM) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude estimate of 4.9 hit the Tokyo area on Thursday but no tsunami warning was issued, Japan's Meteorological Agency has said.
The agency added that the quake was centered in northwestern Chiba prefecture, east of Tokyo.
Japan is one of the world's most seismically active areas, accounting for about 20 percent of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater.
