Arab league condemns Israeli escalations

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Aug 7 (KUNA) -- The Arab League condemned Monday continued Israeli escalations at Al-aqsa Mosque, said Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Occupied Territories Amb. Saeed Abu Ali.

"Israel has the intention to Judaize Jerusalem and Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and dividing Al-quds is part of an Israeli plan to take over the mosque," he said in a statement.

"The latest Israeli measures against Palestinians and Muslims are considered a heinous violation of international charters," he stated.

Regarding the latest US threats to cut off financial aid to the Palestinian Authority, Abu Ali said: "It's just part of the pressure exerted by US administration on the Palestinian people".

Arab foreign ministers had strongly condemned the dangerous Israeli escalation in the occupied Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque as well as Al-Haram Al-Sharif during an emergency meeting held in Cairo on July 27.

They called on Israel to stop its continued policies and assaults on East Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram Al-Sharif, which are gross violations of international laws and resolutions.

Israeli occupation forces had imposed tight security measures around Al-Aqsa Mosque and banned all people below 50 years old from entering the mosque.

Sporadic clashes took place in the West Bank, including in occupied Jerusalem, which led to the injury of 225 Palestinians. (end) mfm.asm.nhq
