The Frontline Socialist Party has been accused of instigating the protests against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).

Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella said that the Frontline Socialist Party is spreading fear among the university students and forcing them to protest against SAITM.

Kiriella urged the university students protesting against SAITM to suspend their protests and return to their classes.

He said that if the students suspend their protests the Government is ready to discuss the charges against those involved in the protests and reduce the charges.

The Minister said that SAITM cannot be closed as there is a court order in support of SAITM.

He said SAITM was given approval by the former Government and now they are joining protests against it for political reasons. (Colombo Gazette)
