(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BERN, Aug 29 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah extolled in a speech Monday, the camaraderie shared between Kuwait and Switzerland.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled gave the speech at the opening of a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of Kuwaiti-Swiss diplomatic ties, with a number of senior diplomatic and political officials in attendance.
Moreover, he noted that commercial ties between both nations have made headway as the volume of trade between Kuwait and Switzerland was worth USD 4.47 billion from the years 2006-2015, adding that Kuwaiti investment in the European nation has risen exponentially, reaching USD 7.9 billion.
Speaking on the ceremony, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said that it is also an occasion to cherish both nations' shared values and beliefs, adding that their political ideologies have always mirrored one another's.
Furthermore, he underscored that both countries espouse the merits of justice and liberty while advocating peace and eschewing evil, pointing to a plethora of examples that demonstrate this, chiefly, their collective concerns over worsening humanitarian conditions in war-torn Yemen.
"Kuwait's progress in humanitarian development has always been a source of pride for us," Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said," as he highlighted the formation of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), with the aim of assisting needy and hapless nations.
Meanwhile, he also pinpointed three international donors' conferences hosted by Kuwait to mitigate humanitarian suffering in Syria as a testament to the nation's benevolence, as these conferences had amassed aid worth USD 1.6 billion.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister also foreboded that ties between Kuwait and Switzerland are on course for increased development as both nations work to bring common goals to fruition. (end) maa.nam
