Russia dismisses claims on Moscow's responsibility for Syria violence

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- Russia on Tuesday refused allegations that Moscow is responsible for the continued violence in Syria, and rejected charges that it had grossly interfered in the country.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the anti-Russia inflammatory rhetoric in the Western media seeks to achieve political goals.
The ministry referred to the US approach on Syria as illogical, saying that Washington acknowledges the dangers imposed by the terrorist groups in the country. Yet, the US links a serious participation in combating terrorism to making changes in the Syrian leadership.
Washington agrees with Moscow that Jabhat Al-Nusra (Nusra Front), now Jabhat Fath Al-Sham, is a terrorist organization, yet the US refuses to launch airstrikes targeting the group, the ministry said.
For more than a year, Washington has refused to offer Russians any information on the locations of the group, and turns a blind eye to cooperation of US-backed groups with terrorists, the statement noted.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused Washington of repeatedly presenting conditions to offer the Front and its allies an opportunity to catch their breath so that they could carry on with fighting the Syrian regime's forces.
It also urged the US and other partners to abandon the unconstructive media rhetoric and cooperate effectively and fairly to counter terrorism in Syria and the region at large. (end) as.msa
