ABU DHABI, 16th August, 2016 (WAM) --- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in a statement, today announced that, following negotiations between its officials and U.S. officials in the recent months, and at an official request from the United States, the United Arab Emirates has received fifteen prisoners who were detained in Guantanamo Bay.

The United Arab Emirates agreed to allow these prisoners to enter its territory for humanitarian reasons.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that the United Arab Emirates hopes that this step, due to its humanitarian dimension, would help these individuals and their families through the rehabilitation programme launched in November 2015, when the United Arab Emirates, based on its consideration of the circumstances that Yemen is going through, received five Yemeni citizens who were detained in Guantanamo Bay.
