(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Following a complaint from a resident about finding a piece of plastic in a Snickers chocolate bar, the Dubai Municipality (DM) confirmed that the product is clean, post an investigation.
Rishi Mohan, a Silicon Oasis resident, purchased Snickers bars from a grocery store in Jebel Ali in May. He was surprised to find a small red plastic piece in his teeth while eating the chocolate. After Mohan contacted the municipality, an inspection was carried out in the store. The DM's Food Safety Department officials said all chocolates in that manufacturing date batch were pulled from shelves for further investigation. Sultan Ali Al Taher, head of the Food Inspection Section at DM, said no link was found between the chocolate bar and the plastic bit. "We inspected the manufacturing plant, but the chocolate pieces were all clear. It was an individual case, and no action was taken against the company," said Al Taher. Mars responds to complaint Mars Incorporated, owner of Snickers, responded in a statement that they cooperated with DM and conducted a quality check and investigation to identify the possible source of the foreign object. "We were able to retrieve the product from the complainant, Mr. Rishi, and based on an analysis of the material, we can confirm that it did not originate in our factory in Dubai, where the product was made," Mars said in the statement. "In accordance with our procedures, we have shared the findings of our investigation. we will continue to work with the Food Safety Department." The DM receives a number of food-related complaints and duly carries out inspections. The whole product is recalled from the market if the complaint is proven true. In February, Mars had to recall a chocolate product across international markets in 55 countries, after complaints of red plastic being found in Snickers bars. Other products affected included bars of Mars, Milky Way, Celebrations and Mini Mix.
