DOHA, 2nd August, 2016 (WAM) The State of Qatar has voiced its concern on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo, calling the international community to shoulder its responsibility in order to protect the Syrian people and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to all besieged cities.

The Qatar News Agency (QNA) has quoted a statement issued on Tuesday by the foreign ministry, saying that the siege and the taking of innocent lives was immoral and against international laws. The ministry stressed the condemnation and disapproval of what the Syrian regime is doing against hundreds of thousands of civilians, particularly women and children.

The statement also reiterated the importance of reaching a political solution on the conflict in Syria in line with Geneva I and Security Council Resolution 2254 in order to end the worsening humanitarian tragedy of the Syrian people.

The statement noted that the crimes of the Syrian regime; its violation of the basic human rights; and the suffering of the Syrian people in terms of the siege, destruction and displacement, are major causes for feeding terrorism and extremism, which threaten the security and stability in the region and the world. The eradication of terrorism will only be achieved by eliminating its causes, it stressed.
