UAE- Library on human trafficking


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) As part of the Year of Reading - 2016 initiative launched by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which aims to produce a generation of readers and promote the culture and dissemination of knowledge among the people, and to support the strategy of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Murr, Director of the General Department for human rights of the Dubai police, launched the first specialised library that deals with human trafficking crimes in the UAE. The library will contain 400 different content versions.

Al Murr said "the library, the first of its kind in the UAE, includes informative versions, as well as a basic and important reference for each researcher who needs information on human trafficking." He noted that the library contains books, movies, documentaries, dramas and brochures, as well as reports and statistics.

Brigadier Al Murr stressed that human trafficking is a national issue and it comes on the priority agenda of the UAE''s wise leadership which, in turn, is exerting tremendous efforts to fight the transnational crime. He pointed to the rate of human trafficking which has dropped over the past years, which indicates that the UAE environment is unfavourable, especially in the light of intensified efforts to spread awareness.

He explained that the library aims at educating people and specialists about the various methods used in the crimes.

The library also has books on international cooperation, prevention, the role of the UAE apparatus and comparative legislation. He said the library will be a reference point that provides knowledge on combating human trafficking. The books and publications are in Arabic and English.

He added that the books relevant to laws are donated and not borrowed.

He added that all references will be made electronic soon enabling the public to read and gain information easily.
