Morocco- Moroccan Imams Spread Tolerance in Spain During Ramadan

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) During the holy month of Ramadan, a group of over 70 imams and morchidates are holding conferences in various Spanish mosques.

According to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP) the trip is funded by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad in coordination with the Federation of the Union of Mosques in Spain. It aims to spread the moralities and precepts of an Islam that ''bans violence and extremism, as encouraged by Morocco'' to members of the Moroccan community in Spain, according to Federation of the Union of Mosques president Abdelaziz El Moudden.

The ministry has made available 52 imams and morchidates, including 32 in places of worship in Madrid, and 20 in the Catalonia region.

King Mohammed VI''s vision of a tolerant Islam and fight against extremism is enacted through his program of imam training in the Institute Mohamed VI located in Rabat. In his speeches to the nations, the Moroccan monarch often puts forward the concepts of tolerance and openness inspired from the, a Moroccan Maliki rite.

Last July, Morocco announced the creation of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the African Ulema intended to ''unify and coordinate the efforts of Ulema Muslims in Morocco and other African states in order to promote the values of a tolerant Islam.

''To this date, Morocco is the sole country to offer a training model for moderate Islam as an alternative to the purist and dogmatic approach advocated by jihadist groups and some centers of influence in the Middle East,'' wrote Lahcen Haddad, Minister of Tourism, in an article recently published on the Huffington Post.
