MoI participates in GCC Correctional Institutions meeting in Riyadh


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) A delegation from the UAE is participating in the 21st Meeting for the Heads of Punitive and Correctional Institutions and the Security Media Committee in the GCC currently being held in Riyadh, and will continue until tomorrow.

The delegation is headed by Brigadier Dr. Yusuf Rashed Al Hamidi, Head of the Policies and Standards Department at the General Directorate of Punitive and Correctional Establishments at the Ministry of Interior. During the meeting, attendees discussed initiatives, suggestions and solutions to promote the correctional and humanitarian efforts at the punitive and correctional institutions.

This would help to develop the services provided to inmates of these institutions in GCC countries, as well as reflect the cultural aspect of the member states.

The meeting will approve a number of recommendations following extensive discussions of the different topics on the agenda set by the General Secretariat, as well as the minutes of the meeting of the Heads of Punitive and Correctional Institutions and the Security Media Committee in GCC counties.

Additionally, the meeting will discuss a draft project to study the Standard Minimum Rules for the treatment of prisoners (SMR), a visit to the rehabilitation treatment center at the correctional institutions compound in Kuwait, as well as establishing national training institutes for employees of the punitive and correctional institutions sector in GCC countries.

The UAE delegation included Colonel Mubarak Khalfan Al Rizzi, Head of the Correctional and Punitive Establishments Department Ajman, Major Dr. Saif Salem Zaid, Head of the Correctional and Punitive Establishments Department Umm Al Qaiwain, and Captain Abdul Muttalib Ahmed Al Hammadi, Head of the Institutional Reputation Management Centre at the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
