Qatar- Four international players to continue with Al Rayyan

Doha: Following a successful local football season, Al Rayyan have secured the services of their four foreign players for the next season. Ali Salem Afifa, Head of Football at Al Rayyan said: “The four international players will be returning including Spain’s Sergio Garcia, Paraguayan Caceres, South Korean Koo Myung, and Uruguayan Gonzalo Vieira will continue with Rayyan next season.”

Afifa also said that the 2015/2016 season was a very special season for our club.

Al Rayyan won the league after twenty-one years and broke many records in the QSL.

Lions bagged the QSL title with five games to spare.

The head of football added that despite the great successes of the team in the last season, he is expecting the next season will be more difficult, and that they must prepare in the best way since Al Rayyan are going to be participating in the AFC Champions League next season. Regarding whether there are going to be any changes in the squad for the next season, Ali Salem said, “After renewing Fossati’s contract, who lead the team to the championship, the coach will provide the club with his needs in terms of players and it will be coordinated with the club board”.

Al Rayyan continue to receive the services of their award-winning Uruguayan coach who signed a new three-year deal to stay with the club till the 2017/2018 season.

Fossati, who is no stranger to football in Qatar after stints with Al Sadd and the Qatar national team, lead Al Rayyan to their first QSL title in twenty one years this term after being hired last summer.

Al Rayyan’s Falcon Shield victory was followed by winning a number of awards at the Qatar Football Association award ceremony. Coach Fossati was named best coach, Tabata best player and top scorer jointly with Abdulrazak Hamdallah, and Al Rayyan bagged the best fan club award.

“Concerning the Uruguayan player Gonzalo Vieira, whose contract ended after one season, there is an agreement to extend his contract and we wish him and all the players luck in the coming season,” he added.

Regarding the local players, Al Salem added “We are waiting for the vision of the coach to see which players he needs for the next season and we are here to support his vision. And we would like to thank the fans for their support this season and we hope to see them next season.”

Speaking about the upcoming training camp, he mentioned, “The camp will take place in Spain and it will be from July 28 to August 20. There will be some friendly games as well as technical and physical training.” He also said that the team will start preparations in Qatar from July 10.

Al Rayyan will also get new training facilities which will be located next to the site where Al Rayyan Stadium – the club’s new home ground and a proposed host venue for matches up to the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar - is currently being constructed.
