UAE- Arab Interior Ministers Council calls for reconsideration of traffic safety strategies

TUNISIA 3rd May 2016 (WAM) -- The Arab Interior Ministers Council has called for the reconsideration of Arab strategies programmes and plans to tackle the phenomenon of the increasing incidence of traffic accidents.

Mohammed bin Ali Kuman Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in a message marking Arab Traffic Week which takes place from 4th to 10th of May said that traffic accidents had worsened in the Arab region and caused the deaths of more than 25000 persons annually along with material losses estimated at US$25 billion.

Mr. Kuman said that despite growing interest in the topic of traffic safety the rates of traffic accidents are still worrying. He pointed out that traffic accidents cause about 25.1 million deaths annually in addition to 20 - 50 million injured according to a report from the World Health Organisation WHO.
