Kuwait- Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah lauds Saudi tweeps forum


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH April 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah extolled the initiative of Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz for holding the fourth Twitter blogger forum "tweeps 2016.

"The initiative is pivotal to benefiting from the social networking websites in building the capacity of youth" he said in a speech to the main session of the forum on Monday.

Sheikh Mohammad expressed joy for taking part in the forum alongside with a galaxy of ministers from the GCC member states intelligentsia public figures and youth - males and females.

"Thanks to the patronage of the Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman the forum deepens the concept of positive dialogue and helps brainstorm ideas about various issues through the social media" he said.

Sheikh Mohammad affirmed that the State of Kuwait attaches great importance to the contents carried by social networking websites and set up specialized departments to follow up the issues of the public opinion and the responses of youth to these issues.

"Though Twitter has a great impact on the public opinion the views raised via it cannot be considered as a credible criterion for gauging the public opinion given the fact that many users and bloggers in this virtual world use hoax names" he argued.

He reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to respecting the freedom of expression saying: "The ceiling of freedom is usually high but it comes down in case of slandering Allah the Almighty Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) or his companions and wives or His Highness the Amir." Besides Sheikh Mohammad the forum gathered foreign ministers of the UAE Bahrain and Saudi Arabia as well as Qatari minister of state for the defense affairs.

In their statements to the gathering the ministers cautioned the youth against the destructive ideologies that could destabilize their countries foment sectarian tensions or promulgate hatred.

On the Operation Decisive Storm they said it testified the unity of the countries of the region and their ability to defend their collective security with the support of their people as seen in the popular responses via the social media.

The event has been organized by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz's Misk Foundation a non-profit agency on an annual basis since 2013. (end) od.gb
