Jordanian police storm Muslim Brotherhood HQ in Amman

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Security forces on Wednesday raided the Amman headquarters of the Jordanian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood movement.

Group spokesman Moath al-Khawaldah told Anadolu Agency that the move -- for which he did not know the reason -- had come on the orders of the Amman governor.

Last month the Jordanian authorities instructed the group to refrain from holding elections for its shura (consultative) council which had been slated for the beginning of April.

The Jordanian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood has been riven by differences between its members since the eruption of the so-called "Arab Spring" in early 2011.

Those differences have led to the establishment of a rival association -- also calling itself the "Muslim Brotherhood" -- which the Jordanian government officially recognized in March of last year.
