Kuwait calls for Mideast free of nuclear weapons
NEW YORK 13th April 2016 (WAM) -- The State of Kuwait has stressed to the United Nations Disarmament Commission the importance of political will to intensify and accelerate collective efforts to free the Middle East of nuclear weapons.
Kuwait News Agency KUNA quoted the First Secretary of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Abulaziz Amash Al-Ajmi during meetings of the Committee on the 2016 Disarmament Discussions as stressing that a free zone of nuclear arms and other weapons of mass destruction can actively boost international efforts to create a world free of such weapons.
He said "The Middle East is still far from achieving this objective as a result of Israel's (intransigent) position on the nuclear weapons' (disarmament) its refusal to accede to the relevant international treaties and subjecting its facilities to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency."
