(MENAFN- Morocco World News) A Moroccan student set himself on fire last Friday in Oued Amlil a mountainous town in the province of Taza about 90 kilometres from Fez.
According to Moroccan media the Al Ouahda High School student set himself on fire in the school courtyard in protest over a decision made by the school council that forced him out of studies there. He was pushed out of the school along with other 'undisciplined students' early in the school year after disciplinary judgments from the school council had been issued against him and the others. According to some other students his self-immolating protest was in reaction to the school administration's decision to allow his classmates to resume classes while he alone was refused re-enrollment. Students at the scene of the incident reported they saw the victim coming from the principal's office in a depressed mood. He was next seen taking a bottle from his bag pouring its liquid contents over his body setting fire to himself and then screaming 'My life has been wasted' and 'That's the one who ruined my life' while pointing to the principal's office. The same source added that students in the school yard were panicking and some female students even fainted after having witnessed the horrifying incident. The school's security guard reacted immediately with an extinguisher to put out the fire and the victim was rushed to an emergency room at the Hassan II Hospital in Fez to receive medical care. Local authorities opened an investigation after the school accused a human rights activist of 'provoking and encouraging the victim to force the administration to take him back at the school.'
