(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Jakarta Jumada I 28 1437 Mar 8 2016 SPA -- Forest and plantation fires on Indonesia's Sumatra island at the onset of the dry season prompted the affected province to declare an emergency dpa cited an official as saying Tuesday.
The emergency status in Riau province will be in effect for the next three months said the head of the local disaster management agency Edward Sanger.
Six districts in Riau have reported outbreaks of forest fires and requested assistance to fight them Sanger said.
"Fires are in areas that are hard to access so we are sending helicopters to douse them" he said.
