Pakistan to buy 6.95m tons of wheat in 2016


(MENAFN) Pakistan has set the wheat procurement target for the 2016 season at 6.95 million tons compared with the goal of 6.6 million tons last year.

The government decided to purchase 6.95 million tons of wheat from the farmers in the new harvesting season to meet domestic consumption requirements.

Based on data, the country has 5.426 million tons of wheat stocks available, of which 3.101 million tons are in Punjab, 0.627 million tons in Sindh, among others.

"The nation has sufficient surplus wheat stock and it is also likely to attain this year's yield target of 26 million tons," said an official of the Ministry of National Food Security.
