QRCS marks National Sport Day with events in Doha and Al Khor

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) shared National Sport Day celebrations with all individuals and institutions by setting up a special corner at Katara Cultural Village to hold sporting recreational and informative activities and offering free medical services for visitors of different ages and walks of life.

With support from Lulu Hypermarket and Olympic Sports events began at 6.30am in a sunny and funny atmosphere which encouraged visitors to engage in sport matches and activities designed for the entire family. More than 250 QRCS officials staff and volunteers including Secretary-General Saleh bin Ali Al Mohannadi took part. Al Mohannadi said he came to encourage youth to exercise and promote values of health and well-being embodied by NSD.

He said QRCS is one of the Qatari institutions working to serve society and meet its needs across the board as an auxiliary to the country in its humanitarian and social efforts locally and abroad.

He praised strong partnership between QRCS and Katara as evident in successful joint events and projects the latest of which is Katara’s campaign to provide winter aid for the displaced Syrian families on the Syrian-Jordanian border.

Run by volunteers the QRCS’s corner saw activities including information for visitors about its mission and the value of voluntary and charitable work; distribution of water and juice bottles and gifts; sport activities for the public particularly children such as exercising under the supervision of a professional coach and football matches between QRCS and other teams.

QRCS’s medical services participated in line with the government’s public health policies and the society’s vision of ensuring safety and well-being of everyone.

QRCS medical officers received visitors distributed health awareness publications trained them in first aid and CPR performed free blood sugar/pressure tests and covered the area with ambulance bicycles.

QRCS’s branch in Al Khor held health and sport activities at locations including Tawasul Heritage Park Al Khor Residential Complex and Petroleum Residential Complex and took part in a marathon held by Al Khor Sports Club Community Police and Al Khor Community Development Centre.

A QRCS fleet of 45 ambulances and 200 medics were dispatched around venues such as Museum of Islamic Art Souq Waqif Corniche Aspire Zone and the Pearl-Qatar throughout the day to take care of the public and intervene in emergency.The Peninsula
